Time - Conceptually

And they are told: "Wen considered the nature of time and understood that the universe is, instant by instant, re-created anew. Therefore, he understood, there is, in truth, no Past, only a memory of the Past. Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. Therefore, he said, the only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it."

Picture a perfect New England spring day. One in which the weather is comfortable enough to open your windows to air out the house. A day in which the weather is pleasant to be outside to do yard work, to read with a beer or glass of wine, or to just sit and take it all in. These moments are rare, but do occur in our fast-paced lives. You live in the moment. You live for Now. You don't look to the future or to the past. Just Be.

I wonder if this is what life is like for some of those that I teach. Are they lucky enough to have this time where I am barely able to afford it? Will they allow me to sit in the Now with them or keep it all to themselves. Can I recognize when my students are experiencing this and will I encourage it or move them along to where I need them to be? I think this is a topic not thought often enough about. Maybe it's Time.
